Luca Marchiani

We are very fortunate to have Luca Marchiani traveling with us on our journey through Tuscany.  A native of Florence, he has a wealth of local knowledge and will be one of our drivers.  He speaks excellent English and has an infectious passion for food and wine.  Please read more about Luca below.

 

My name is Luca Marchiani and I am a 35-year-old professional Sommelier from Firenze. My deep passion for wine brought me to become an AIS (Italian Sommelier Association) Sommelier in 2017. After watching the movie “Somm”, I decided to improve my skills and start the Master Sommelier program at the prestigious ALMA Academy in Parma. After 9 months of studying, tastings (lots of tastings), and an internship in Antwerp, Belgium, I was able to enter in the elite group of the Italian Master Sommeliers. Right after the degree, in February 2020, I formed a group called “Los Tres Amigos” where, along with 2 of my sommelier friends, we search for small, family-owned, quality driven wine producers and introduce them to our US based importer – Queen of Wines located in Durham, NC.

I’ve worked for 2 years as Head Sommelier (2021 and 2022) at Atman, a 1 Michelin Star Restaurant in Pistoia. In 2023, I started my latest occupation as a Wine Educator at Lorenzo de Medici School in Firenze where I teach wine, food, and Italian culture to study abroad students and as a wine-tour-guide at Grape Tours.

In 2025 I won two prestigious awards: 

 

-Master Sommelier (Best) of Chianti Classico

-Best Sommelier of Tuscany 2025

 

On the 1st of October 2025, I became a father. My son Lucio, was born on my birthday, the best gift ever!! Last but not least, I love to write about wine and you can read some of my articles on my website (www.themarchian.com).
